City makes efforts to ensure safe child custody exchanges

For the majority of parents, ensuring that their children are always safe is the number one priority, regardless of whether the parents remain together. Unfortunately, there are times when child custody disagreements can lead to unsafe situations for both parents and children. In the event that South Carolina families are worried about these matters, they can seek assistance from compassionate professionals.

Recently, police officials in one city took steps to ensure that custody exchanges can be conducted in a safe environment. They set up a section of their parking area that is in full view of cameras that have been dedicated to record the designated parking area. In the marked spaces, parents can conduct their custody exchange in full view of the police and in a public setting, which tends to provide an added measure of safety.

Officials are also promoting the spots as a safe place to conduct business transactions stemming from online purchases. Customers can meet with the sellers and be assured that they are in the presence of officers if there is any question concerning their safety. Only legal sales are permitted, and there are to be no transactions involving firearms. The police decided to set up the safe exchange place in response to concerns about crimes that have occurred when strangers meet to purportedly conduct business transactions.

This Tennessee city is not the first to take such a proactive measure, as there have been similar projects set up in other states. In 2015, a father killed his estranged wife, son and himself when they arranged to meet at a fueling station to exchange child custody. Police are hoping that the presence of law enforcement will allow parents to meet safely whenever there are concerns about potential problems. South Carolina residents who are currently worried about their custody agreements, or have similar concerns about any issues during an impending divorce, may be able to draft a more agreeable custody plan with the guidance of a compassionate and knowledgeable attorney.
