Serious collision between dump truck and pickup in South Carolina

No matter the time of day or weather conditions, drivers are aware that a serious collision could occur in a split second. One recent accident in South Carolina has resulted in two drivers suffering possibly catastrophic injuries. Though the investigation has not been completed, one driver is believed to have been at fault.

South Carolina Highway Patrol recently responded to the scene of a crash between a commercial dump truck and a pickup truck. According to the report, the driver of the pickup, a 52-year-old man, was traveling east on a local road. At the same time, the 32-year-old driver of the dump truck was headed west. For reasons that are yet unclear, the dump truck veered across the line into oncoming traffic.

The pickup's driver purportedly saw the impending crash and attempted to take evasive actions, as the impact with the heavier vehicle was not described as a head-on collision. Unfortunately, the crash caused the smaller truck to leave the travel lanes where it struck a tree and fencing along the side of the road. The older driver suffered possibly catastrophic injuries and was transported by medical helicopter to the nearest facility equipped to handle traumatic injuries.

The dump truck driver was also seriously injured and was taken by ground to a nearby hospital. Officials cited him for a moving violation. The nature and severity of the older man's injuries was not disclosed, and it is unclear what his future prognosis may be. Understandably, if he survives his injuries, he will likely face an extended recovery and rehabilitation. South Carolina travelers who are injured in a crash caused by the negligence of another party may choose to consult with an experienced attorney who can provide assistance in recovering their financial losses through the civil justice system.
