Researchers from three leading universities concluded that if a close friend ends a marriage then one has a 75 percent chance of also winding up divorced at some point in the future. If it's simply a friend of a close friend that divorces, the increased risk of divorce is 33 percent. There are several factors at play here, but one reason may be that it makes one take a closer look at a troubled marriage.

When a close friend is going through a divorce, he or she likely is discuss all of the negative aspects that led to the decision. This may in turn lead one to re-evaluate one's own relationship, including the negative issues that lead to conflict. Once a friend has filed for a divorce and emerges happier, it may lead his or her friends to seek their own freedom from any unhappy relationships.

It is likely that the idea of filing for a divorce only occurs to those who are already struggling in their marriage. It was reported by the researchers from Brown University, the San Diego campus of University of California and Harvard that a friend's divorce will not negatively impact a healthy relationship. Regardless of what may have led to a divorce, South Carolina residents do not have to face the proceedings alone.
