Teen driver charged after fatal crash in South Carolina

Those who have limited driving experience are often categorized as a risk factor for causing traffic accidents. As a result, many insurance companies charge higher rates for young drivers, especially male drivers under 25 as they often engage in riskier driving habits that pose a threat to others on the road. Unfortunately, that has been illustrated once again after a teenager has been charged following a fatal crash in South Carolina.

According to the investigators, the wreck occurred at a local intersection in Greenville. An 18-year-old man was driving a vehicle in a westerly direction as he approached an upcoming intersection. For reasons that are yet unclear, he then proceeded into the crossroads and struck another vehicle that was being driven by a 73-year-old man.

The second driver was critically wounded in the collision and died at the scene. The teenager did not suffer any injuries. He has been charged with one count of reckless vehicular homicide.

South Carolina officials have also charged him with a first offense of driving without a valid license. He is currently in police custody as against an $11,000 bail bond, and is scheduled for a court appearance on Oct. 25. The victim's family are understandably shocked by his sudden death. Families in similar circumstances often struggle to come to terms with the loss of their loved one and may also have the added burden caused by the financial losses that come with a fatal crash. An experienced attorney can provide guidance and support in filing a wrongful death civil lawsuit seeking monetary relief from the parties deemed responsible for their documented damages.
